"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.“
John 14:6 (ESV)

„...the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ."
1 John 1:2-3 (ESV)

Jesus is the eternal life. He was with the Father, but is now made manifest to us. I don’t know how do you understand being born again and receiving the eternal life. It is important to understand that one does not receive eternal life apart from Jesus Christ. He himself is the eternal life. You either have Jesus and with him every blessing, or you have nothing. We gain eternal life by entering the fellowship with Jesus and through him with the Father. It is in Jesus that we are blessed by every spiritual blessing, not apart from him (Eph 1:3). In him, the Father provided us with everything:
  • eternal life,
  • every spiritual blessing,
  • redemption through his blood,
  • forgiveness of our trespasses,
  • adoption to God (made us his children),
  • inheritance along with the Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance.

That is a lot and we could certainly go into more detail. 1 John makes clear that the possession of all these fine gifts and promises come through fellowship with Jesus. There truly is no other way. If we have Jesus, we have all of these. On the other hand, we have nothing if we do not fellowship with Jesus.

"If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."
1 John 1:6-7 (ESV)

This is a warning and also a measurement device by which we can tell whether we actually have fellowship with Jesus. Since God is light and since there is no darkness in him at all, we must also walk in the light, otherwise we cannot stay in fellowship with him. There is a lot written about walking in the light, but this imagery used by John is nothing too complicated. Everything is visible in light, nothing is obscure or hidden. When we expose all our being to Jesus, we are in light and his blood cleanses us from all sin. Mind this: from all sin.

To sum it up, Christianity is relational. It is not mere religion. Christianity in its core is living relationship with God. All this was enabled by Jesus. He became the central point of it. It is through him we come to the Father, it is in him we are blessed by the Father. You might have had some encounter with Jesus. Maybe you entered the fellowship with him a long time ago. But today is the time for you to reevaluate your relationship to Jesus. Can you wholeheartedly say that you fellowship with Jesus? Can you say that you understand that all of your blessing come through Christ and that you have and are nothing without him? If not, now is the time for you to come to him and pray with clear understanding, knowing that Jesus is your ultimate treasure and that you will receive nothing else from the Father, but his only begotten Son, Jesus, in whom you have more than you can even imagine.
